Scholar-in-Residence RABBI BARUCH RABINOWITZ – on Dec. 4-5 (Parshas VaYishlach)
A talmid of Rav Dov Schwartzman and Rav Moshe Shapiro, Rabbi Rabinowitz graduated Mir Yeshiva Rabbinical Institute of Brooklyn and received Semicha in 1979, both from Mir Yeshiva and from the Kasemarker Rav, Rav Meir Gruenberg. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Queens College in 1977 and a Master of Science degree in Secondary Jewish Education from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Yeshiva University in 1982. Rabbi Rabinowitz was a faculty member at Mesivta Ohr Torah of Forest Hills, (1981-89) and the founding Rebbe of Yeshiva Tiferes Torah of Statan Island, where he taught from 1989-97. He taught courses at the Young Israel Collegiate Program in Staten Island (1992-93), organized and directed a S.E.E.D. program in Columbus, Ohio, for three summers, and was educational coordinator for NCSY’s Long Island Region (1978-83). Rabbi Rabinowitz and his wife are extensively involved with various support groups that provide chizuk, advice, lectures, and guidance for parents of children with developmental disabilities in the US, Israel, and England, as well as being personally involved in counseling individuals. He is the founder and administrator of Keren Achva, a non-profit charity and loan fund in Brooklyn, and he lectures regularly in areas of hashkafah to various Bais Yaakovs and women’s groups in Brooklyn. He and his wife Miryam (nee Schlussel) live in Brooklyn with their five children (bli ayin hara), one of whom has Down Syndrome, and their grandchildren.
