2010 Ahavas Yisroel Little League Registration

While to many, January represents football and the Super Bowl, for AY it marks the beginning of little league season. And to kick it off, registration for AY’s participation in the 2010 Jewish Community Little League (JCLL) season for boys, grades 3 through 8, will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010, after 1:00 p.m. at the home of David Kirschner, 141-28 72nd Drive. If you are unable to attend, please contact David no later than Motza’ei Shabbos, January 9, 2010, to make alternative arrangements and ensure you son’s placement. Regarding this year’s registration, please note the following:

Although the registration fee has remained unchanged for several years, substantial increases in both the JCLL fees and our equipment expenses required us raise the registration fee to $100 for AY members and $125.00 for non-members. All JCLL membership and participation costs are included.

All members and returning non-members registered by January 10 will have first priority for team placement. After January 10, open community registration will begin. Anyone registering after January 10 will be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve, basis only but placement WILL NOT be guaranteed. All players, members and non-members who played on an AY team last season will have first priority to return. Members will have first priority for all available roster spaces. All requests for specific team placement and/or placement with friends will be considered. Registration/placement, however, is subject to team availability and cannot be guaranteed.

By registering, EVERY player is making a commitment to attend ALL games. Parents are encouraged to attend and urged, if possible, to assist in managing/coaching duties. When registering, please indicate whether you are available to manage, coach or supervise practices (to be determined by coaches but are usually held on Friday afternoons). In the event a team does not have a manager/coach, that team will not be fielded.

The uniforms will be the same as in previous years. Pants will be a required part of the official AY uniform for several reasons. First, JCLL rules strictly prohibited shorts. Second, denim or cotton trousers are not conducive to running. And finally, the nylon stretch material is far more comfortable while wearing the required athletic supporter and cup. It is recommended, although not required, that players wear shoes with rubber cleats.

Uniform costs:
Jersey - $21.50* (includes last name and number; if you have a jersey from last year, please tell us your number. If you are entering a new division and have a jersey with a number that is already taken, you will be asked to purchase a new jersey)
Pants - $17.50*
Hat - $5.00*
* based on last year’s manufacturing cost

Moatza'ei Shabbos Learning Program Delays World Series

Close to 60 people joined together to make the first Moatza'ei Shabbos Learning a smashing success. In fact the tremendous Mesiras Nefesh resulted in Game 3 of the World Series being delayed by rain until the learning was over.

First Night of Sukkos - Halachic Rain Advisory

For people who are not eating alone.

If it rains tonight on the first night of Succos:

- Wait 20 minutes from when you're ready to go into the Sukkah.

- If it doesn't stop raining, make kiddush, wash and eat a kezayis in the Sukkah without a L'eshev B'Sukkah and eat your meal in your house.

- If it stops raining at some point, go out and eat a kezayis with a L'eshev B'Sukkah and the meal can be finished inside the house.

- You can bentsch inside your house if you ate your meal inside your house.

- It is stops raining after you've bentsched, you should eat a kezayis with a L'eshev B'Sukkah at some point in the night.

Also note that on Shabbos you should start Shalosh Seudos by 3:40 PM.
