MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear Members and Friends,

We are pleased to announce that Congregation Ahavas Yisroel’s annual Journal Dinner will take place, IM”H, this year on Monday evening, May 8, 2006, at the Young Israel of Forest Hills. As you know, this event is our major fundraiser of the year. It is also the one time of the year that we have the opportunity to collectively express our Hakoras Hatov to those individuals who have been, and continue to be, an integral part of our Kehilla. This year, we are proud and grateful that Richard & Terri Kalker have graciously agreed to be our guest of honor.

For those of us that know Richie and Terri, we are certainly aware of their significant and consistent contributions to our Shul. Among the exhaustive list of their efforts is their prominent support of our building campaign, Richie’s active membership on the board of directors and Terri’s service as president of the women's league. In addition, Richie has been a regular participant in the Baal Koreh rotation and has inspired his son, Yisroel, to do the same. In short, as several members have pointed out, they are incredible.

Please help make this event the outstanding success it can and needs to be. Of course, we anticipate your generous support and hope you will express that support in our commemorative Journal. Your presence, however, does make an enormous difference in our dinner’s success and we deeply appreciate your attendance.

Kol Tov,

David J. Kirschner
Dinner Chairman

3/26 Shiur by Rabbi Paysach Krohn

Chickens for Shabbos (Oif L'Shabbos)
cordially invites the entire community to a shiur by the world reknowned Mohel and lecturer

Rabbi Paysach Krohn

on the topic of "The Haggadah"

The shiur will take place on Sunday evening, March 26 at 8:00pm at:
The Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills
150-05 70th Road
Kew Gardens Hills, NY 11367

Refreshments will be available following the shiur.
All donations are welcomed.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Chickens for Shabbos (Oif L'Shabbos) is a tzedakah under the auspices of Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld, Mara D'Asra of the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills and Rabbi Doniel Lander, Rosh Hayeshiva of Yeshivas Ohr Hachaim. Chickens for Shabbos (Of L'Shabbos) is an organization that helps alleviate the terrible financial woes of so many families in the poverty-stricken communities of Israel whose economic distress is difficult to describe.

In America, two of the most active participants in this truly great effort and, indeed, the driving force behind it are Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld Sh'lita, Rabbi of Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, and Mr. Robert Neuman t"yhka. In Israel the main activists are two young wonderful men by the name of Shlomo Zalman Ellinson from England and Chaim Puretz from Flatbush, both studying at the Yeshiva in Brisk.

Sometime ago they became aware of the terrible plight of hundreds of families living inYerushalayim who literally find it impossible to put food on the table. Some of these unfortunate families have a large number of children and grandchildren whose average Shabbos meals consist of tuna fish and cottage cheese.

Please note that not a single individual is being compensated nor does anyone derive any personal gain from this great Pikuach Nefesh activity. Every penny that you contribute literally puts food on a family's table. If you wish to help with this tremendous effort you may mail your tax deductible check to:
